On topic 1. (the only one that's posted right now) The church has the right to do whatever it wants. But it sure doesn't seem like it would reflect well on the church to renege on the service it offered.

I agree with j. The church absolutely has the right to deny the service as a means of defending its beliefs, but at what cost? Has the church gotten to a point where it can only see issues and no longer pray for people? Offering a funeral service seems only to say "this is one of God's children, let us remember him and honor his passing." I don't believe it condones his lifestyle. To say that a homosexual individual cannot receive prayer at his or her death seems to go one step beyond "love the sinner, hate the sin." The sin begins to blind the church towards the needs of the sinner, and his family. Assuming this church has a very conservative evangelical base...what type of witness does that present to the rest of the world?
